In 1993, just before Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated, the newspapers got hold of a saucy conversation between the heir to the throne and his mistress Camilla. Now, this sparked a major scandal. For you see, the cheating prince’s words to his bedfellow were considered pretty cringeworthy, not to mention disrespectful to his wife. And here, in the twentieth century, they arguably still are.

But Camilla was more than just Charles’s on-the-side girlfriend – she was the woman he’d apparently always loved. You see, the pair first met in 1970 while attending the same polo match, and sparks flew right away. Reportedly, Camilla (then Camilla Shand) wasted no time in informing the prince that her ancestor, Alice Keppel, had been a mistress to his late great-grandfather, King Edward VII.
