Loyal audiences followed the exploits of the Crawley clan and their underlings, with a movie even arriving in September 2019. The franchise has been a hit for a multitude of reasons, yet one might point towards the clothing style of the characters as being particularly special. 4. Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery)

With her slim figure and air of refinement, Lady Mary Talbot spends much of her time being propositioned by gentlemen. And it wouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that this was the case with the actress that played her. After all, Michelle Dockery possesses these same attributes – though obviously with a more contemporary spin.

3. Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael)

As Downton Abbey progressed, Lady Edith Pelham became increasingly stylish. Yet from the off, her short golden locks and elegant features were evident to all. The character was portrayed by Laura Carmichael – a woman also known for her trendy ways in real life. But anyone aspiring to beguile the actress has sadly left it too late. After all, she’s reportedly been going out with fellow cast member Michael C. Fox for the past year or so.

2. Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt)

As a servant to the Crawley household, Anna Bates spends much of her time dressed in her maid’s getup. Yet she could also be seen sporting more vivid and colorful numbers during her downtime. Perhaps this latter inclination reflects actress Joanne Froggatt’s real-life tendencies, as she’s been known to dress rather brightly.

But if anyone was ever going to be up to the task, it was always going to be Dame Maggie Smith. The award-winning actress looks at total ease while dressed up in her character’s respectable clothing. And the same can be said for when she’s dressed in her own clothes for A-list events.
