Christmas is traditionally a time for festive cheer, celebrating family, love and togetherness. Unless you’re a celebrity, then it’s just another chance to enjoy your time in the spotlight by creating an awesome Christmas card for your adoring fans. But, inevitably, certain celebs just don’t get it – leading to some hilariously cringeworthy cards.
For example, we’re not sure what exactly was going through Justin Timberlake’s mind when he posed for this photo, but we can’t imagine he was really enjoying himself. Perhaps he was secretly hoping that the tinsel would strangle him to death there and then?
Yes, it appears that even the great Paris Hilton went through her awkward teenage years at some point. She couldn’t even crack a smile for this photo – but then, would you really want to? After looking at this awkward composition, moreover, you can’t really blame her for wanting to be absolutely anywhere else at that moment.
The Jonas Brothers may have faded out of the limelight in the past few years as a collective entity. Still, every now and then, they pop up with a cringeworthy Christmas card to remind us all that they still exist. And even their most ardent fans can’t have enjoyed this monstrosity.
Perhaps the most awkward thing about this photo of Britain’s former Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie is that it’s completely sincere. And his Chandler-esque “smile” is matched only by the hollow expression in her eyes. Festive, for sure.
A Christmas card from Hugh Hefner is already embarrassing by default. But things reach a new level of awkwardness when you consider the startling age difference between him and his wife, Crystal. Finally, the unbearably twee move of pretending that their dog has signed the card himself is the last straw for this mawkish creation. It’s only cute with actual kids, Hugh.
Boy band Christmas cards were apparently a thing in the early noughties – at least if this card from *NSYNC is anything to go by. And just when you thought boy bands couldn’t get any more lame…
Unfortunately, it seems that Paris Hilton’s cringeworthy Christmas card tradition actually followed her into adulthood. And the only difference is that she no longer looks like she doesn’t want to be there – but somehow, that makes it even worse.
The Kardashians always seem to pull out all the stops when it comes to Christmas cards, for better or for worse. In fact, this particular example is just a segment from their panoramic 2013 seasonal greetings card. And to call it over the top would be an understatement.
Britney Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline pretty much set the tone for their marriage with this Christmas card in 2004. Indeed, the couple divorced just two years later, though we’re not sure if the cringeworthiness of the card was directly responsible.
You have to feel for Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s kid – and not just because he’s called Bronx Mowgli. After all, you can almost see the resigned sense of despair creeping across his little face here. And, in fact, this is another marriage that ended in divorce not long after the card in question was created. We’re starting to see a pattern…
It doesn’t get much more awkward than this. O.J. Simpson’s card must have already been as embarrassing as they come when he first sent it out. In hindsight, though, the cringe factor has only increased. Perhaps it’s best to just never speak of this one again.
Royal Family Christmas cards are always going to be full of pomp and splendour – and Charles and Camilla’s is no exception. But nothing says “we’re better than you” like wearing a top hat and dress that probably cost more than your recipient’s annual salary. Awkward…
American Pie actress Mena Suvari’s Twitter bio quotes Bette Davis as saying, “Hollywood always wanted me to be pretty, but I fought for realism.” With that in mind, we’re pretty sure this card is almost entirely sincere. Which just makes it all the more baffling. And, of course, embarrassing.
It looks like actress and model Rebecca Romijn is still clinging to her most famous movie role, as Mystique in the original X-Men trilogy. How else do you explain her desire to blend in with her family with these eye-offending matching outfits?
We’re not sure what’s worse here – Josh Duhamel standing naked over his infant son Axl, or the absolutely abysmal Photoshop job stitching it all together. It doesn’t come much more awkward than this, and the expression on Fergie’s face says she knows it.
Honey Boo Boo’s TV show was already cringeworthy enough in the first place. So it’s no surprise that her Christmas card with her family would be equally awkward. And it’s hardly the most festive of cards, is it?
For a man once named the 68th best heavy metal singer of all time, Scott Stapp’s Christmas card is surprisingly tame. The Creed vocalist might be wishing everyone a rockin’ festive season – but he’s doing so in probably the least rock and roll way possible.
Remember when we said the Kardashians like to go over the top where their Christmas cards are concerned? Well, here’s more proof, if you needed it. And the motorbike gang theme is just baffling – what exactly does it have to do with Christmas?
Some celebs’ Christmas cards are basically just a plea for attention – a cry to the world to make sure they stay in the spotlight. Miley Cyrus’ crazy antics in recent years have ensured as much, for example, but her 2013 Christmas card went one step further.
An ever-so-slightly more down to earth Christmas card from the possible future King of England. But one that’s equally as cringeworthy, too. Could Charles and Camilla look any more awkward on that ski slope? And something tells us that this was a spur-of-the-moment photoshoot.
